SOCIAL PROGRAM ONLY FOR ACCOMPANYING PERSONS
Tuesday, 24
In the morning tourists will visit
Villa Lante in Bagnaia (4 km from
Viterbo), that is one of the most beautiful examples of Renaissance gardens in
Italy.
In the evening there will be a tourist tour in
Viterbo. Viterbo is known
as ‘the city of popes’ because its history is closely related to the Roman
Catholic Church history. The best known sight is the “Papal Palace”, a gothic
architecture built between 1255 and 1267 for the popes. The most charming part
of the town is the “Medieval Quarter of San Pellegrino”, built during the 13th
century.
Wednesday, 25
The tour of the day will be
the Etruscan Necropolis of Tarquinia (45 km
from Viterbo), with pictorial decoration dating between the sixth and the second
century b. C.. Among the most remarkable tombs there are the Hunting and Fishing
Tomb, the Tomb of the Leopards, the Tomb of the Lotus Flower, the Tomb of the
Lionesses, the Tomb of the Maiden (Pulcella), the Fustigation Tomb and the Tomb
of the Caronti (both of them are hell divinity).
Thursday, 26
The tour starts from
Civita di Bagnoregio (20 km from Viterbo), also
known as the “dying town”. This little town is perched on a tuffaceous hill
situated in a valley called “Calanchi” valley. The ground is falling around the
city because of land-slide.
Later, tourists will visit the sumptuous
Palazzo Farnese in Caprarola (17
km from Viterbo), an original stark fortress completely transformed into a
late-Renaissance jewel. The Architecht that guided the building works was Jacopo
Barozzi, from Emilia, known as “il Vignola”. The Palace consists of splendid
apartments covered in frescoes by the best-known artists of time.
Optional Touristic Tours are available depending on the number of accompanying
persons interested.
